LATEST GBC FOR STEAM

Some of the features mentioned here assume that you have the latest version of GBC for Steam.

You only need "GBC.exe" from the archive. Replace the existing files in each Steam folder. There are also other versions included with more features (character editing, teleporting, etc.). Read the included instructions.

The default Steam version of GBC is missing some of the features and external tools of the normal GOG / DOSBox version. For the external tools like the Save Game Editor, you need to download the normal version. Do NOT use the normal GBC for Steam gameplay, just use the tools when needed.

GBC DOESN'T START

When started, GBC always creates a log file. Each game in the series has its own folder, and under that a "GBC" folder where the log file ("Log.txt") is created.

Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the game's folder, or go to the folder through Steam's "Manage" menu.

Note that each game has its own folder, and its own "GBC" folder.

Example log file.

If no log file was created, try to run "GBC.exe" while the game is running. If your system completely refuses to start GBC, then your virus scanner / firewall might prevent it from running.

GBC STARTS BUT WITHOUT ANY WINDOWS

By default, GBC is meant to be used with windowed games. If no windows show up, try to lower the game's resolution so that you have enough screen estate. The GBC windows might also be hidden under other windows, if you have lots of windows open.

The map window can be resized with mouse wheel, and window docking can be changed by clicking the "Map docking" button on the HUD. When docking is unlocked, the map window's title bar can be toggled by right-clicking the map window.

GAME WINDOW TITLE HIDE / HUD STAY-ON-TOP

You can set the HUD window to cover the game window's title bar, making it a bit more seamless experience, and also to save some vertical screen estate. In this mode, the HUD window also stays on top of other windows.

Move your mouse over the HUD window so that the help text and the buttons are shown.

Right-click on a blank area. The HUD window should now cover the game window's title bar. Right-click again to reset the setting.

HUD DOCKING UNLOCK

Normally the HUD docks on top of the game window. You can unlock docking by pressing Ctrl+D when the HUD menu is shown.

The HUD window can now be moved to a wanted location, for example on another monitor if you want to play in fullscreen or with a big game window. Use mouse wheel to adjust the window size. Right-click on the HUD to toggle the title bar.

Press Ctrl+D again to reset docking.

DISABLING THE MOUSE AUTOLOCK

In some of the games you can use mouse, and by default, in these games the mouse locks inside the game window, making it harder to access other windows. This can be disabled from the game's DOSBox settings.

Go to the game's folder. Edit the file "base.conf".

Change "autolock=true" to "autolock=false".
